WinTest® Software Tech Tips

Using WinTest 4.1 TuneIQ® Software

TuneIQ® control optimization software is the WinTest® function utilized to automatically establish optimal servo controller tuning for testing when using WinTest control system software. TuneIQ software uses advanced proprietary algorithms to simplify the tuning process and provide excellent recreation of system program waveforms, allowing for improved test control and ultimately better test results. This feature was introduced in WinTest Version 4.0 and is now significantly improved in the Version 4.1 release.

TuneIQ software uses a multi-step tuning approach, including the following steps: 1) the system is characterized by applying low level excitation to the system and specimen, 2) the system transfer function is estimated from the data obtained, 3) a set of servo controller tuning parameters are calculated and applied to the control system, and 4) a system stability check is performed before releasing the system in the tuned and optimized control mode.

The characterization steps have been enhanced by improving the frequency resolution of the data acquired for measuring the system transfer function. This is accomplished by using broadband excitation and a new algorithm for data acquisition and system transfer function estimation, thus allowing for a better estimation of the servo controller tuning parameters. The new stability test ensures that the system will operate safely using the best attainable performance for the specimen and test setup in place at the time the TuneIQ sequence is activated. These improvements allow a better optimized test system which in turn will facilitate more successful testing with better data and overall testing results.

TuneIQ software is activated by selecting the TuneIQ waveform button on the WinTest main window, setting up the desired waveform, turning on the motor and then activating TuneIQ optimization via the TuneIQ button on the waveform window. The sequence runs to completion providing the user with on-screen status up to completion, and then the system is then ready for testing. The overall sequence is illustrated below.

The TuneIQ software is activated from the Group Window by clicking on the TuneIQ Waveform button.

WinTest Software Tech Tips!

Set up the desired test waveform, turn on the linear motor, and then activate the TuneIQ button. The procedure will run to completion and provide status during the process.
