Cardiovascular Tissue Applications
The cardiovascular configurations provide a closed saline or cell culture environment for tissue evaluation with pulsatile flow. Steady flow generated by a computer-controlled pump is combined with the pulse produced by the ElectroForce® linear motor so that pulsatile flow parameters (mean flow, pulse volume, and frequency) are independently controlled.
Multiaxial loading configurations combine pulsatile flow with tension/compression and torsion to mimic physiologic conditions. Single-specimen and multi-specimen loading of vascular tissues, scaffolds, along with tissue-engineered constructs, and other related biomaterials is available. Catheter pressure transducers measure internal (luminal) and external (abluminal) specimen pressures, and optical/laser micrometers real-time measurements of the outer diameter of dynamically loaded tubular specimens.
